I just don't even know anymore...

Last night I had the weirdest, most random dream...

I'm sitting in the back seat of Princess's late 90's gold Toyota Corolla. I find this very odd, Princess does not own a late 90's gold Toyota Corolla, but alas, here I am in the back seat. Princess and the Zombie Queen are up front talking about something. I can hear them, but I have no idea what their conversation is about. We are driving through an abandoned shopping center parking lot. It looks to be just before sunset, but I can't be sure.

Across the street, there sits an older home. And for some reason, I know this house, it is familiar. I think I saw it on some ghost hunting show at some point. And I remember it was a total hotbed of paranormal activity.

Princess guns it in the late 90's gold Toyota Corolla (I just like saying it...). I notice that the driveway to said haunted house is covered in frost or a light dusting of snow. That is when he cranks the wheel to the left and we start sliding sideways down the driveway... passenger side first. I brace myself for the instant death I know is coming my way as soon as the car impacts with the garage.

The next thing I know, Princess, the Zombie Queen and I are in the late 90's gold Toyota Corolla sitting in the backyard of the haunted house. The garage is now gone, Princess demolished it without even scratching his late 90's gold Toyota Corolla.

We get out of the car, the back of the house looks gutted. The walls are nothing but 2x4 framing. There is one door that leads downstairs into what I can only assume would be the basement. At this point, we are joined by the Zombie Queen's hubby #1. I don't know what we are looking for, but I know it is located in the "Crystal Room". We walk down a long hall and find shallow containers with full on koi ponds in each one. There are probably 20 Rubbermaid koi ponds lining three of the four walls in the room.

As we walk along, the koi start jumping out of the Rubbermaid ponds and into the large central pond that I hadn't noticed before. Somehow, the whole room has morphed into a large koi pond. We trudge through the now knee deep fishy water towards the "Crystal Room" (it had a sign and everything).

And this is where I woke up. WTF goes through my head on a daily basis? Sleeping or awake, god I am so damned weird. And yes, this was random and made no sense at all to me either. But I posted it anyhow...

Rule #1: Cardio

So, ummm... yeah! Fucking WOW!!! I loved this movie. It was so damned good! I would recommend this movie to ANYONE! Whether you love, hate or are indifferent to the whole zombie genre of movies, go see this one! Just "nut up or shut up!" I laughed my ass off. And yes, I will admit I jumped a few times (but I blame the preview for the movie Legion for starting that).

I'm also so looking forward to World War Z based on a book by Max Brooks. Who has also written The Zombie Survival Guide and the forthcoming The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks. Ugh, I need to get my ass going and finish reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and then move on to the Max Brooks collection. All the while, still enjoying the new found and extremely amazing distraction in my little mad scientist...

Just a few rules to live by:

#1 - Cardio ... "The first ones to go were the fatties..."
#2 - Beware of bathrooms
#3 - Seat belts
#4 - Double tap ... the zombies ALWAYS get back up after the first shot/blow
...
#17 - Don't be a hero
#18 - Limber up
#22 - Plan your escape
#31 - Check the back seat
#32 - Enjoy the little things

Dear FCC and your new blogger law... I was not paid for this rave review of Zombieland, nor have I ever spoken with or received any kind of compensation (unless you count the hours of joy I received from watching it and talking about it) from anybody even remotely involved with this fucking-fantastic movie!

Zombieland here I come!

So today, after work... Zombie Queen and I (along with her straight husband... I'm the gay husband here...) are going to see Zombieland. This should fit in perfectly with my love of the funnier side of zombie movies (such as Shawn of the Dead, Fido and Boy Eats Girl).

I do have to admit I've fallen down on my zombie readings though. I love Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but I am just having the hardest time finishing it. I've got like 10 chapters left...but for some reason my lazy ass just isn't reading. Maybe I can blame it on the new little mad scientist in my life... maybe...

Looking for shadows in the dark

Princess and the orb

I have to say that I have always been fascinated by ghosts, zombies, vampires, etc. Now as to whether they really exist or not, all I can say is that I believe there is more out there than any of us knows or understands (that can be taken as my view on religion as well...except I think religion can and has been far more destructive than any of the above-mentioned entities).

So last Friday, I went on a ghost hunting tour out at an old hospital some miles west of here. I went with Princess, the Zombie Queen and a few of their friends. As you can tell by my last post, I was a bit apprehensive about this. Don't get me wrong, I was excited as hell, but still somewhat nervous.

So we got out there while there was still a little daylight left. This hospital isn't really too creepy or scary looking from the outside, but inside, that's a whole other matter. I took with me a flashlight, extra batteries, and a camera (along with several other of my every day items that live in my man bag (a.k.a. purse). The did tell us up front that batteries being drained is a very common things, so that if you weren't using your cell phone to turn it off, so I did...mostly because if it rang or vibrated, it probably would have sent me through the ceiling.

One of the co-owners, Stardust, took us on a brief tour of the place before turning us loose. She pointed out several rooms of interest and the names and likes/dislikes of a few of the more permanent residents of the place. There are the little kids, Jessica and her brother (I think), Roger or Robert (no one is sure on which one it is exactly, Wes, Mary (the kindly nurse who helps guide some of the elderly from the next door home along the right path), and a few others.

One of the keys to 'seeing' ghosts that Stardust pointed out, is to look for the dark or shadows in the dark spaces. Such as a darkened doorway that may have cracks of light or a lighter colored frame around the edge, to look for the missing light or lighter areas. An example of this is a double doorway at the end of a long hallway...top, bottom and left side all have a sliver of light from the area beyond. However, on the right side of the door, this sliver of light is not there from the floor to about three-fourths of the way up the door. The reason given for this is the spirit of a soldier who stands guard at the door. If you get closer to the door, you can see that beyond where someone would theoretically stand, you can see the sliver of light on the right side of the door.

During the tour, when we were in the old hospital lab, I did get kind of tingly sensation on the top of my head as if someone were lightly touching my hair...at this point I looked at Princess and he looked at me and asked me if I was touching his head. I of course told him I was not and that my head felt as if it were being touched as well. This was my second most tangible paranormal event of the night.

At several points during the night, I took pictures in different locations throughout the hospital. In one room, they had a recorder going to try and capture EVP's. We were in one of the old emergency rooms and while Princess was asking questions, I snapped a picture of what looks to be an orb right in front of Princess.

I also got several more pictures of orbs (mostly around Princess...he's a damn orb magnet apparently, he has named his personal orb friend Howard Weinstein). One such room I caught what could be either an orb in motion or a vortex (which could be me using two terms for the same thing). We happened to be right outside of the "Death Room" when I got that picture. The "Death Room" was what they used as a makeshift morgue to store the bodies of people who died until the local funeral home could come pick them up.

And speaking of the "Death Room" (room #20), this is where my most tangible experience of the night happened. Princess, Zombie Queen, her husband and a few other friends and I were in the "Death Room" with the door closed. Again, recording in hopes of catching some EVP's. Now, as I had mentioned earlier, I had turned off my cell phone. So, there we were in the near complete darkness in the "Death Room" asking questions in hopes of getting answers, I felt a slight vibration in my pocket as well as the all to familiar start up tones from my phone. I have a slider phone with a power button that isn't really all that easy to accidentally push. You really have to hit the button just right and hold it in for a few seconds to get it to kick on. Now, surprisingly enough, I didn't die right then and there of a heart attack, I did think about it though, how fitting would that have been to die right there in the death room. But if I'm really going to die and somehow get earth bound or tied to a place in death, I hope to hell to not have it be an old creepy hospital.

Now, looking back, am I a firm believer now? No. Am I a nay-sayer or non-believer? Oh, hell no! I truly do believe there is more out there, and who knows, maybe someday I will find out (and no, that is not an invitation for any person or entity to make a believer out of me, I am doing just fine as I am right now, thank you very much!) But, I did have a amazingly fabulous time with friends (new and old) and would do it again in a heartbeat!!!

Pride and Prejudice...and Zombies?!?!?

I'll be the first to admit, I haven't read it. I haven't even read the original Pride and Prejudice, although I do have the book at home, sitting on my dresser, and I have seen the Kiera Knightley version of the film (which I LOVED!!!).

But when I came across a story about a new and updated version called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies...I thought to myself, "well, now that's just a swell idea". And I meant it! Yeah, I'm weird about zombies for some reason. I love 'em! I haven't seen every zombie movie out there, yet. But I do have a few favorites, such as "Shaun of the Dead", "Fido", "Boy Eats Girl", etc. And now, I can incorporate zombies into my love of reading. You can bet this one will be going on my request list at my local library!

And here's my favorite quote from Monica Hesse's article on MSNBC.com:

The news was announced in the recently released novel "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," which recounts the struggle of Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters to simultaneously annihilate the undead invading their idyllic community and to marry well.

Were it just the zombies, the Bennet sisters would surely triumph, armed as they are with advanced weaponry knowledge and Shaolin martial arts training. Unfortunately, however, aliens, vampires, robots and dragons are also about to descend on the village.

I'm in love and we haven't even met yet!

Cumpleaños felices a mí!!!

Well, it was XX years ago that I popped outta the maternal maturation chamber. It's been an interesting ride to get to where I am for sure. Ups, downs, highs, lows, mountains, valleys.... call 'em whatcha want... but here I am.

So, I just definitely gotta say, Zombie Queen, Roommate, Princess, Nugget and a couple of others, thank you for turning not the greatest day into one of the best birthday's I can recall! I may not have everything I want in the life, but god damn! I have some fucking amazing friends in my life! I have an incredible family that I love (even if they drive me insane at times).

And to top it all off, I got a fucking 176 bowling tonight after yummy Cheesecake Factory! Again, to those friends who helped make this a great day.... THANK YOU!!! I <3 you all so very much!

If not but for the grace of the zombie surprise birthday gods!

WE (not I, but definitely a capital WE) pulled it off. And it was an amazing birthday party! Roommate DID decide to come home last night at 5:00 p.m. However, Roommate's Mom was waiting for him in the drive way....

ROOMATE'S MOM: The battery in my car is dead, and we're late, we need to go.

ROOMMATE: I'm tired, I just want to go in and sit down for a little bit.

ROOMMATE'S MOM: We're late, we NEED to go!

ROOMMATE: What's wrong with you?

ROOMMATE'S MOM: We need to go now.

ROOMMATE: I'm just going to go sit down, I'll be over in a little while.

At this point, Roommate's Mom grabs Roommate by the arm and more or less throws him back into his car...

ROOMMATE'S MOM: We're going now!

That gave Princess, Friend and I plenty of time to finish getting ready and to get dressed. And when the actual "Surprise" part of the night came...it went off without a hitch.

Roommate walked in the door carrying his ski boots. All of the lights were off, it was almost completely dark inside and out, and the fog machine was running as well. Then we all yelled "Surprise!"

Later all Roommate could say was that
there was smoke, bright flashing lights and a lot of noise...the house MUST be on fire

After that we rushed Roommate down into wardrobe and make up to complete the living dead look we were all there to celebrate!

Run for your lives! The end is near!

Anyone who has been reading my blog for awhile may have picked up on my affinity for zombies. Yeah, it's weird and I have no explination for it...but it there...so deal with it. I came across this story and nearly fell out of my seat laughing. I absolutely loved it!

Yeah, it's a crime, they shouldn't have done it, blah, blah, blah! Aside from the public safety issues, we could all use a good laugh. And I don't know about you...but I found this pretty f'ing funny!

buy it here!

p.s. here are my recommendations for a couple of really good zombie movies:

1. Shaun of the Dead

2. Fido

3. Dawn of the Dead (2004 version)

...I guess I'm more a fan of the funny zombies really

All shapes and sizes!

Well, you know me, if it's zombie related...I'm posting it. Speaking of which, I'm still working my slow-ass through Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I'm loving it, just slow going for some reason. Hopefully I'll have more to report on it soon!

I do have to say though, my favorite passage from the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies thus far has to be this:

He then asked her to walk into the house--but she declared herself not tired, and they stood together on the lawn. At such a time much might have been said, but nothing was. Elizabeth and Darcy merely looked at one another in awkward silence, until the latter reached both arms around her. She was frozen--"What does he mean to do?" she thought. But his intentions were respectable, for Darcy merely meant to retrieve his Brown Bess, which Elizabeth had affixed to her back during the walk. She remembered the lead ammunition in her pocket and offered it to him. "Your balls, Mr. Darcy?" He reached out and closed her hand around them, and offered, "They belong to you, Miss Bennet."

And yet still nothing new to say...

But I really like this series from ASofterWorld.com (I'll add the 6th one later). It caries on with my as-of-late "Zombie" theme...

And here's part #6...YAY!!!!
